A British law chief who is pursuing Benjamin Netanyahu for war crimes has stepped down over an alleged sex assault.

Karim Khan, the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, has categorically denied claims that he tried for more than a year to coerce a female aide into a sexual relationship and groped her against her will.

The alleged victim claimed he tried to silence her by saying the 'casualties' of her allegations would include 'justice' for the Palestinian people.

Khan is leading the war crimes case in the ICC against Israel, accusing Netanyahu of crimes against humanity within the war against Hamas. The court also charged three leaders of Hamas, who have since been killed.

According to the Wall Street Journal, witness testimony given to the UN claims that Mr Khan told the woman: 'The casualties [of her allegations] will unfortunately be three: You and your family, me and my family and the justice of the victims.'
