Detectives investigating the death of a 14-year-old boy in a fire at a derelict warehouse have arrested another five children on suspicion of manslaughter.

Teenager Layton Carr was found dead after emergency services were called to a blaze at a building near the Fairfield Industrial estate in the Bill Quay area of Gateshead, Tyne and Wear, on the evening of May 2.

In the days that followed 13 boys and three girls, aged between 11 and 14, were arrested on suspicion of manslaughter.

And now officers say they have held five more youths on suspicion of manslaughter, boys also aged between 11 and 14.

Two were today still being questioned in police custody while the remaining three have been released on bail.
