A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the discovery of a missing person's body in a river just two days after he was last seen.

South Yorkshire Police said it was first made aware of a man's disappearance shortly after 12.15pm on Saturday.

The missing person, currently unnamed, had not been seen since Thursday.

Following inquiries, officers then searched a river near Treeton Lane in Rotherham and discovered the body of a man at around 7.15pm.

A 42-year-old suspect has since been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.
