The body of Ilaria Sula, a 22-year-old female student who went missing in Rome on 25 March, has been found in a suitcase in countryside near the Italian capital, sources said on Wednesday.

Her 23-year-old ex-boyfriend has confessed after been detained and charged with homicide and hiding a body, the sources said.

He allegedly stabbed the woman to death in an apartment in Rome and then dumped the body.

The corpse was found in woods at the bottom of a cliff in the area of the Lazio town of Poli, the sources said.

Italy has experienced an alarming spate of femicides, with many victims killed by their current or former partners.
