The body of Ilaria Sula, a 22-year-old female student who went missing in Rome on 25 March, has been found in a suitcase in countryside near the Italian capital, sources said on Wednesday.

The corpse was found in woods at the bottom of a cliff in the area of the Lazio town of Poli, the sources said.

The murder probe is focusing on the woman's former boyfriend after a recent breakup, according to the sources.

Italy has experienced an alarming spate of femicides, with many victims killed by their current or former partners.
