‘From rule-taker to rule-shaper’: Modi’s big global governance reform pitch at BRICS Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for a 10-proposal roadmap for global governance reform at the BRICS Summit, focusing on representation, responsiveness and rule-making. Modi said the Global South must move from being “rule-takers” to “rule-shapers” and called for reform of the UN Security Council and greater representation in global economic institutions. He also proposed a BRICS emergency support network for seafarers and greater participation of the Global South in shaping rules for AI, cyberspace, outer space, biotechnology and critical technologies.
