Mr Fine was on the 79th floor of the World Trade Center's North Tower for an appointment on behalf of his sick son when the plane struck. Missing a transfer elevator to the 87th floor allowed him to escape down the stairs before the building collapsed. The 11 September 2001 terrorist attacks resulted in 2,996 deaths, including hundreds of emergency services personnel. Now 83, Mr Fine still uses the famous black briefcase from the photograph as a symbol that the attackers did not win.
