Former CVS executive Helena Foulkes will win the Democratic nomination for governor of Rhode Island, CNN’s Decision Desk projects, defeating incumbent Gov. Dan McKee as she capitalized on voter frustration over the partial closure of a key bridge and the ensuing traffic chaos.

Helena Foulkes outraised Gov. Dan McKee and turned his handling of a $571 million bridge into her top attack line. Four years ago, he beat her.

Rhode Island Gov. Dan McKee is hoping to avoid becoming the first governor in any state to lose a party primary since 2018

Just before 9 p.m., Foulkes was leading McKee 62.5% to 37.5% with 80% of the votes counted, according to the Associated Press.
