Search for four family members after small plane goes missing off Bahamas coast

The five-seater PA-34 Piper was travelling from Great Harbour Cay to Miami Executive Airport when air traffic control lost contact 13 miles west of Andros Island. The aircraft was piloted by 80-year-old Mario Lamar, who was travelling with his wife Lily, 79, and their grandchildren Christian Sosa, 22, and Sophie Sosa, 28. Flight tracking data indicated that the plane's altitude dropped rapidly from 10,000 feet to 3,700 feet in just three minutes before vanishing. Search and rescue efforts co-ordinated by Bahamian authorities and the US Coast Guard have been temporarily suspended due to severe weather in the area.
