Canal authorities may further reduce ship traffic if a strengthening El Niño worsens the country's drought.

The Panama Canal on Friday (Sep 4) began reducing the number of ships passing through due to a drought caused by the El Nino weather phenomenon.

Panama Canal traffic will be cut from 36 ships a day to 32 amid El Niño's dry conditions.
