More than 300 flights delayed after technical issue closes Gatwick Airport runway

A Norse Atlantic Airways Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner bound for New York performed a rejected takeoff and became temporarily disabled on the runway. The runway reopened after the aircraft was towed away and a full safety inspection was carried out by emergency teams. More than 330 flights suffered severe delays averaging nearly an hour, whilst several incoming flights were diverted to Luton and Stansted airports. Passengers travelling through Gatwick have been advised to check their flight status as disruption is expected to persist for the rest of the day.
