The Royal Variety Charity confirmed that O'Sullivan passed away peacefully on Friday surrounded by his close family at Brinsworth House care home in Twickenham, where he had lived for the past 23 years. His son, James O'Sullivan, paid emotional tribute to his father, describing him as kind-spirited, good-humoured, and a doting grandfather, while praising the care home staff for their dedication. Giles Cooper, life-president of the Royal Variety Charity, lauded O'Sullivan as a true giant of British television who brought warmth, wit, and effortless comic timing to millions of viewers. Starting his career as a child actor in 1953, O'Sullivan's notable credits spanned decades, including roles in the 1963 film Cleopatra alongside Elizabeth Taylor and the title character in the period adventure series Dick Turpin.
