Human rights groups have demanded the arrest and prosecution of those behind the abduction of Standard Group Associate Alex Kiprotich, as concerns grow over the safety of journalists in Kenya.

While demanding immediate safe and unconditional release, Mwita called for a prompt, transparent and independent investigation into the abduction.

Mr Kiprotich was found at 2am dumped some 10 meters away from Masinga Dam, nine hours after he was abducted along the Gilgil–Nakuru Road by armed men.

In a statement, the party termed the brazen abduction that was caught on a hidden camera as disturbing and uncalled for.

At the same time, MSWG said the abduction joins the long list of similar targeted threats to the press and journalists.
