Fort Lewis Army Base used staff training, equipment upgrades, renovation projects, and improved operating practices to strengthen building energy efficiency. In 2003, its Public Works Department hosted a BOC Level I course for twenty-five Maintenance and Repair Division employees and other Public Works staff. The training helped employees expand their knowledge of building systems, energy conservation, indoor air quality, and equipment operation. The base also worked on energy-efficient lighting, motors, HVAC and mechanical systems, windows, and integrated controls.
