Indias proposed front-of-pack warning labels are facing opposition from both health activists and food companies. FSSAI has proposed a red hexagonal warning when a product exceeds limits for at least two of three nutrients—added sugar, salt or saturated fat.

The significance of the proposal lies not merely in shape or colour of a new label, but in shift in regulatory approach that has followed the SC’s intervention

The warning will apply only to products having two of the three nutrients above the threshold level
