U.S. Sen. Ed Markey faces a competitive Democratic primary challenge in Massachusetts on Tuesday from U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton in his bid for a third full term.

Markey is 80 years old and has been in Congress longer than his opponent, Rep. Seth Moulton (D-MA), has been alive.

The Democrat will be 86 years old when his term ends in 2032.

The contest was among the bitter Democratic feuds this cycle, but bucked the growing trend of younger insurgents ousting older incumbents.
