Dan Driscoll was a close ally of Vice President JD Vance but clashed with Secretary of War Pete Hegseth

Army Secretary Dan Driscoll is stepping down after 18 months on the job. That’s according to the White House on Monday.

Army Secretary Dan Driscoll submitted his resignation to President Donald Trump, three sources familiar with the matter told CNN.

The development follows Driscoll publicly breaking with Hegseth's move to force Gen. Randy George, the ousted Army chief of staff, to retire.
