We were told subsidy was the reason Nigeria could not develop. We were told that once it was removed, the savings would be redirected into education, roads, healthcare and security. So, where are the massive investments? We are told NELFUND and some road projects are products of subsidy savings. But other government defenders have also argued that subsidy removal did not create a huge pool of cash; rather, it simply reduced the amount Nigeria would have needed to borrow. Which one is it?
