Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed apologized to Jewish Democrats on Saturday for saying “hurt people hurt people” as part of his response to a March attack on a synagogue near Detroit.

El-Sayed, who would be the first Muslim senator, has denounced antisemitism while fiercely criticizing Israel for its military operations in Gaza.

“I have spoken with the good doctor. He’s our nominee. I support his election. I take him at his word," the South Carolina Democrat said.
