Bournemouth have achieved European qualification for the first time in their history, while Sunderland return to continental competition for the first time since 1974. Celtic entered the Europa League following a play-off second-leg collapse against LASK, joining last season's Conference League winners Crystal Palace and major European sides such as Bayer Leverkusen, Benfica and Juventus. The updated 36-team first phase will see each club allocated eight fixtures, playing four home and four away matches against two opponents drawn from each of the four seeding pots. Brighton & Hove Albion and Heart of Midlothian will subsequently learn their group stage opponents when the Conference League draw takes place at approximately 1pm BST.
