The presidential candidate of Accord Party, Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has described former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the “father of subsidy removal” in Nigeria’s Fourth Republic, saying his recent reversal on fuel subsidy removal deserved an explanation and an apology to Nigerians.

His reaction followed Atiku's recent promise to restore the petrol subsidy, and he argued that Nigerians have not benefited enough from the savings generated by its removal.

Mr Ibe acknowledged that Atiku supported the removal of petrol subsidy during the 2023 campaign.
