Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said that since 1937, the Congress has been playing only one stanza of 'Jana Gana Mana' and two verses of 'Vande Mataram' and that would remain the party's position.

The party said it will abide by its 1937 resolution, which omitted four verses of the song as they invoked Hindu goddesses Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati.

The Congress reaffirmed its 1937 stance of singing only the first two stanzas of Vande Mataram, sparking criticism from the BJP, which labeled the party as Muslim League.
