Tamil Nadu government has ordered 1.28 lakh gold rings for newborns. This scheme, a poll promise, will launch on September 15. Children born in government hospitals from June 22 will benefit. The total cost for the initial rings is approximately Rs 220 crore. The government has budgeted Rs 755.83 crore for the entire year.
