The Centre has approved the deployment of five companies of central armed police forces in Meghalaya following the violent protests in Shillong that left several people injured and vehicles damaged. A senior police official said, "A petrol bomb was hurled at a police outpost in Shillong, while three government vehicles and a motorcycle were set ablaze in Ri-Bhoi and another petrol bomb was lobbed at a government office in Southwest Khasi Hills. There are reports of petrol bombs being hurled at the ruling National People's Party office in Shillong. No one has been injured."
