A former juvenile prison in Nara, Japan, built in 1908 and used until 2017, has been transformed into a five-star Hoshinoya hotel. Around 500 former prison cells have been combined into 48 luxury suites, while original brickwork and other historic features remain. The hotel, which opened in July, charges roughly $317 to $1,114 per night, depending on the suite.

The repurposed Nara Prison, now Hoshinoya Nara Prison Resort, offers luxurious accommodations in a century-old correctional facility. Take a look inside. | Travel
