Black Hole Maths Is Why Your Wi-Fi Works Two Rooms Away

Wi-Fi's core signal-processing method came out of a 1970s radio-astronomy hunt for exploding black holes that ended empty. Engineer John O'Sullivan reused the maths at Australia's CSIRO, whose 1996 US patent combined parallel sub-channels, forward error correction and bit interleaving to beat indoor echo. CSIRO collected more than A$430 million in royalties and settlements.
