A 1937 Congress resolution, taken on Rabindranath Tagore’s advice, is at the centre of a fresh row with the BJP over the song.

The party said it will abide by its 1937 resolution, which omitted four verses of the song as they invoked Hindu goddesses Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati.

The Congress reaffirmed its 1937 stance of singing only the first two stanzas of Vande Mataram, sparking criticism from the BJP, which labeled the party as Muslim League.
