Victoria's top prosecutor Brendan Kissane KC described the 33-year minimum sentence as manifestly inadequate given Patterson's truly dreadful behaviour. Patterson is appealing her conviction on three counts of murder and one count of attempted murder, maintaining that the fatal poisonings were accidental. Crown prosecutors rejected defence claims of a miscarriage of justice, stating there was no evidence Patterson had an innocent interest in foraging for wild mushrooms.
