India celebrated its 80th Independence Day with Prime Minister Narendra Modi leading the celebrations from the Red Fort. In a historic first, the National Song ‘Vande Mataram’ was sung during the Independence Day ceremony, before the Prime Minister hoisted the National Flag, followed by the National Anthem. The flag hoisting was synchronised with a ceremonial 21-gun salute fired by the 1721 Field Battery using indigenously manufactured 105mm Light Field Guns.
