Rimmer was an ever-present player during Aston Villa's 1980-81 league title-winning campaign and was part of their 1982 European Cup victory, despite suffering a neck injury nine minutes into the final against Bayern Munich. The one-cap England international achieved the rare distinction of earning two European Cup winner's medals, having also been on the bench during Manchester United's 1968 triumph over Benfica. After making over 200 appearances for Villa, Rimmer moved to Swansea City in 1983 and later went into coaching, serving as caretaker manager at Swansea and working as a goalkeeping coach with China's national team.
