British Columbia Premier David Eby says a fast-moving wildfire in western Canada that forced more than 20,000 people from their homes may signal a “new normal” after outpacing official models and giving some residents little time to evacuate

A state of emergency was declared Saturday as more than 100 wildfires burned across the province, nearly half of them out of control.

Wildfires have forced some residents to flee their homes and left others keeping an eye out for possible evacuation orders.
