Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said that the majority of political leaders elected by Nigerians since the return to democratic rule in 1999 have lacked the character, attributes and values required to uplift the country. Obasanjo made the remark on Tuesday at the 2026 Goodluck Jonathan Foundation Democracy Dialogue in Bauchi, the Bauchi State capital. Speaking on the state of democracy in Nigeria and Africa, the former president expressed concern over the quality of political leadership produced under the country’s democratic system.
