Iran appointed Mohsen Rezaei as secretary of its Supreme National Security Council. Rezaei, a hardliner and close ally of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, takes the key security post. He previously commanded the Revolutionary Guards for sixteen years during the Iran-Iraq war. Rezaei also served as vice president for economic affairs from 2021 to 2023. His appointment follows months of conflict with the United States.
