Man jumps in river to avoid being arrested by policeman on borrowed bike

A shoplifting suspect jumped into a river to try and escape a police officer who was chasing him on a borrowed bicycle. Footage shared by Bedfordshire Police on Thursday (6 August) shows the officer asking a member of the public to lend them their bike while they pursued the suspect through a park. “Give up, lad,” the officer shouts to the man, who then jumps into the River Great Ouse. “If I have to come in and get you, I'm going to be really unimpressed,” the officer told the suspect, who finally got out of the water after a lengthy negotiation. The man was arrested on suspicion of theft and possession of an offensive weapon. He was also wanted on a fail-to-appear warrant for a further 13 theft offences.
