A study found that a small alcohol dose improved foreign language pronunciation perception. Independent listeners rated Dutch speakers better after consuming a low alcohol amount. Participants themselves did not believe their language skills had significantly improved. This unusual research earned its authors the Ig Nobel Peace Prize. The findings suggest alcohol may reduce inhibitions for speaking foreign languages.
