Why is Turkiye supporting the Saudi-led Red Sea defense coalition?

Saudi Arabia recently announced the creation of a multinational maritime defense coalition to help safeguard freedom of navigation in the Red Sea and the Bab Al-Mandeb Strait. Fourteen countries backed the initiative in a joint statement, including Turkiye. During a telephone call with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan welcomed the establishment of the Saudi-led multinational maritime defense alliance and wished it success in achieving its objectives.
