A 2,400-year-old shipwreck found off Greece is still carrying hundreds of ancient amphorae beneath the sea

Greece's Ephorate of Underwater Antiquities has confirmed the discovery of an ancient shipwreck resting off the coast of Andros, its cargo of pointed bottom commercial amphorae scattered across the seabed at depths ranging from 39 to 44 metres. A tip off from a private individual first led investigators to the site, and the Greek Ministry of Culture made the find public on July 31, 2026.
