President William Ruto's decision to onboard over 106,000 village elders into the National Government Administration system has been widely viewed as a campaign strategy ahead of the General Election.

Village elders to start receiving Sh3,000 stipend begining this month and special training on administrative duties, President Ruto says.

At least 106,000 village elders across the country will enjoy monthly stipend, free smartphones, training and health insurance cover, the government has announced.
