The federal government is moving to shut down the organization that manages organ donations in the Kentucky region, US Health and Human Services Secretary Robert Kennedy Jr. announced Wednesday, calling the organization a “bad apple.”

The federal government is ending its contract with a Kentucky nonprofit that it says pressured medical workers to remove organs from patients who were getting better.

The U.S. | HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said the decertification comes after federal reviews found “persistent patient safety failures.”
