The man, who believed it was his room, remained inside for approximately one minute before leaving after an exchange with the couple. The couple reported the incident but found no staff at reception; police later attended the hotel for an unrelated disturbance. After difficulties contacting Travelodge, the couple eventually received a refund for their stay and a £100 voucher. Travelodge apologised, admitting updated security policies were not followed, and stated they are retraining staff and reviewing room access security following similar past incidents at their hotels.
