Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from the Cincinnati Open, throwing into doubt his fitness for the upcoming U.S. Open beginning later this month.

Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from the Cincinnati Open because of a lingering right wrist injury that has sidelined him since April.

Alcaraz, 23, has returned to the practice court in Spain but will not play the last major tuneup before the U.S. Open.
