MUMBAI: World Gold Council has come out with a 21-year plan to substantially improve the gold ecosystem in India. The plan, christened Swarnim Udaan and aligned with govt's Viksit Bharat 2047 vision, aims to build on the strengths that have long distinguished India globally while creating new engines of growth for the future, WGC's report said.

The World Gold Council wants gold classified as a strategic mineral to simplify mining approvals, boost domestic production and reduce import dependence.

India aims to meet 20% of its gold demand domestically by 2047, proposes WGC's Swarnim Udaan report.
