Jetstar has announced it will charge passengers to stow carry-on luggage in overhead lockers from next year, allowing only a small under-seat bag at no extra cost.

The low-cost carrier says weighing passengers’ bags is slowing down the boarding process, contributing to delays.

The airline will also begin charging a fee for guaranteed access to overhead bins, but is increasing its in-cabin weight allowance.

Jetstar Australia will start charging passengers for the use of overhead luggage bins from February next year.
