India’s Central Asia push: India looks to expand trade as it deepens ties with Uzbekistan

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held talks with Uzbekistan Foreign Minister Saidov Bakhtiyor Odilovich in New Delhi, highlighting the growing strategic partnership between India and Uzbekistan. Jaishankar said both countries have shown “zero tolerance” towards sanctuaries and cross-border terrorism, while noting that bilateral trade is close to $1 billion and should grow further. Saidov called India Uzbekistan’s “most important strategic and trade partner in South Asia” and said his visit is aimed at preparing for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to Uzbekistan.
