July was the driest for both England and Wales since records began in 1836, with England receiving only 6.5mm of rain and Wales 9.3mm, significantly below their long-term averages. The UK as a whole experienced its third driest July, with 28.9mm of rain, marking the lowest figure for the month since 1868. Both England and Wales also recorded their sunniest July since data began in 1910, with England logging 305.6 hours and Wales 308.0 hours of sunshine. Wales equalled its record for the highest mean temperature in July at 17.8C, while England saw its second warmest July on record with a mean temperature of 19.2C.
