France's largest wildfire since 1949 has been brought under control, a minister said Saturday, more than a week since the fire erupted in a pine forest near the southwestern city of Bordeaux.

France's wildfire situation showed signs of easing on Thursday morning, with officials reporting calmer conditions across several major fire zones.

Firefighters in the Gironde region of France said the situation had "stabilized", after a week of wildfires caused by a major heatwave across Europe.
