Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage, a former pacer from Sri Lanka, stunned the athletics world by defeating Neeraj Chopra with an 89.75m throw to win CWG gold.

Neeraj Chopra, the 2018 CWG gold medallist and double Olympic champion, qualified for the javelin throw final with a 79.61m effort amidst challenging conditions.
