England launches free bus travel for children to ease summer holiday costs

The Department for Transport initiative aims to alleviate financial pressures on families during the school summer holidays. Secretary of State for Transport Heidi Alexander stated this measure helps families with the cost of living. The Government also introduced the Great British Summer Savings scheme, cutting VAT on children's meals, theatre and cinema tickets and family attractions. A £2 cap on bus fares for all passengers will be reintroduced from the start of next year, replacing the current £3 cap.
