Pressuring wife to sign divorce papers not 'cruelty' under BNS, rules Patna HC, quashes case against husband

NEW DELHI: The Patna high court has quashed criminal proceedings against a man accused of pressuring his wife to sign divorce and child custody papers, holding that such conduct does not amount to cruelty under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The court held that asking a spouse to agree to the terms of separation or custody does not fall within the definition of cruelty.
