The ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has quickly grown into the second-largest on record, with cases taking just weeks to reach levels that had taken years in previous outbreaks.

Official data shows 1,437 patients have died out of the 3,262 cases so far. The 2018-2020 outbreak had more than 3,400 reported cases.

The fastest-growing Ebola outbreak in history has killed over 1,500 people in eastern Congo. Official data released Thursday shows a 50% spike in about a week.
